Inside of My Guitar

by - February 18, 2021

Sharing with you a self-portrait of myself back in 2008. This represents two of the best things that I enjoy doing - music and photography. I started playing the guitar when I was 14 years old, back in the days when being in a rock bad is cool :)

Playing the guitar brings back random memories that I have. One memory that comes to my mind is a story that my mom told me. My papa used to play the guitar a lot and I once had an accident because he’s so into it, he didn’t notice that I have already fallen off my crib.. we I am OK and my dad is still my favorite hehe (at least now I don’t feel too guilty about the minor accidents that my kids had when they were younger). I miss my papa so much...

Another memory was about my friends who have patiently coached me when I was learning the guitar - shoutout to daddy Yubs (Side A’s new vocalist) and kuya Mike. They are the two people who have spent time teaching me (after begging them haha) and sharing me tricks around the guitar. I don’t think I would enjoy this instrument if they haven’t been so patient with me.. hehehe

Lastly, playing the guitar reminds me of Minnesota. That’s where I got my first Taylor and that particular day taught me that the Law of Attraction really works. Long before I went to the US, I have always dreamt of either owning a Taylor or a Martin but the chances of me getting one while in the Philippines is so low. Aside from not having the capacity to afford one, there isn’t a dealer/retailer here in the Philippines who can sell me one for a reasonable  price. I never gave up that dream and have always asked that someday i would have that chance to get myself one. So then I was assigned to Minnesota in 2011, and who would expect that I am able to get myself a Taylor 214ce. I then downsized to a limited edition Taylor GC Mini-e KOA FLTD made of Hawaiian koa. Don’t ask why I did but it was partially my husband who made me LOL Maybe I would tell about its story in another post.

Anyway, I am just reminiscing so much about the past lately, not sure why but at times when I feel like asking myself where the universe wants to take me, I end up looking back, and it somewhat reminds me of how these events led to where I am at now. It made me more grateful and I worry less after. So at times, when you are feeling so down or just couldn’t find a reason to stay and be where you are now, look back to where you came from, maybe it would remind you of an important learning from your life and would give you motivation to go on.

Do you have memories from the past that is so significant that your present has been greatly influenced by it? I would want to hear your stories too ;)
