Tea Time with Miyo

Welcome to my little corner of the internet—where heart talks, soul giggles, and curious minds gather. I started this blog to share snippets of my life: the magical, the messy, the mundane, and everything in between.

Think of this space as a cozy chat over tea, where we can daydream, dive deep, and laugh about the wild ride of being human.

So grab a comfy seat, bring your whole self, and let’s journey together—one beautiful, weird, wonderful moment at a time.

One of the most common problems women face these days is PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), a complex endocrine and metabolic condition involving insulin signaling, androgen production, ovarian function, inflammation and sometimes, altered ovulation.

I have discovered three herbs that make an interesting combination - Cinnamon bark, Clove and Orange rinds. These contain compounds that have been studied for their efects on glucose metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, circulation and cellular signaling.

From a naturopathic and biochemical perspective, I would look at these through serveral interconnected systems rather than thinking of them as a direct treatment for PCOS. Let's look at what each bring to the discussion.

Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum verum/Cinnamomum zelanicum)
Primary compound: Cinnamaldehyde
Cinnamon is particularly interesting in PCOS research because of its potential relationship with insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. Insulin resistance is common in PCOS, including in some women who are not overweight. When cells become less responsive to insulin, the pancreas compensates by producing more insulin. Elevated insulin can stimulate ovarian theca cells to produce more androgens, contributing to hormonal imbalance.

Cinnamon compounds have demonstrated several potentially relevant activities. (1) Insulin signaling: Cinnmaldehyde has been investigated for its influence on glucose uptake and insulin-related pathways. (2) Glucose metabolisnm: Cinnamon preparations have shown potential effects on blood glucose regulation in some human studies. (3) Anti-inflammatory activity: Cinnamon constituents demonstrate anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory research. (4) Antioxidant protection: Its phenolic compounds and aromatic constituents have demonstrated antioxidant properties.

Improving insuling sensitivity may help address one of the metabolic mechanisms contributing to excess androgen production.

Orange (Citrus sinensis)
Primary compound: Limonene
Orange is particularly interesting for its anti-oxidant properties and its potential influence on inflammation and cellular oxidative stress. The ovaries and reproductive tissues are metabolically active. They depend on healthy cellular signaling, adequate blood supply, balanced inflammatory responses, and normal mitochondrial function.

Limonene has been investigated for the following activities. (1) Antioxidant activity: Potentially helps protect cells against oxidative stress in experimental models. (2) Anti-inflammatory activity: Has demonstrated activity involving inflammatory signaling pathways. (3) Cellular protection: Research suggests possible protective effects against oxidative injury in certain tissues. (4) Nervous system support: Orrange essential oil has been investigated for relaxation and anxiet-related responses.

Oxidative stress and chronic low-grade inflammation have been associated with PCOS. They may contribute to impaired follicular development, insuling resistance, and disturbances in ovarian function. Orange has a plausible supportive role in a broader wellness approach, particularly through its antioxidant-related properties.

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)
Primary compound: Eugenol
Clove is particularly interesting because of its strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Eugenol has been studied for several biological activities. (1) Antioxidant activity: Can help neutralize certain reactive oxygen species in experimental systems. (2) Anti-inflammatory activity: Has been investigated for effects on pathways involved in inflammatory responses. (3) Antimicrobial activity: Demonstrates activity against various microorganisms in laboratory studies. (4) Tissue protection: Experimental studies have explored its protective effects against oxidative and inflammatory injury.

For reproductive health, the potential connection is the relationship between oxidative stress, inflammation, and ovarian tissue function. Healthy ovarian follicles require a carefully regulated oxidative environment. Excessive oxidative stress can interfere with follicular development and cellular function. Clove’s antioxidant properties make it scientifically interesting in this context.

This is where the three botanical compounts become interesting as complementary wellness tools for feminine health.

Here is an essential oil blend recipe that I used to support my body specifically for reproductive health, insulin signaling and glucose balance, oxidative stress, inflammatory responses and cellular signaling.

While this is effective in supporting my wellness goals, I suggest that you also listen to your body's response to this kind of approach and work with a healthcare professional to better understand what underlying conditions your body need support on.

About me

About Me

Hello I am Cherry Ang but you can call me Miyo —and I’ve been blogging since 2007.

What started as a space to share my love for makeup and beauty has slowly, naturally, evolved into something deeper—something more reflective of who I’ve become.

Back then, I wrote about colors, textures, and finding confidence through creativity. Over the years, as life offered more lessons, more beauty (and sometimes more chaos), I began writing less about the surface and more about the soul. And in 2021, I felt the call to return to blogging—not just as a hobby, but as a way to offer something real, nourishing, and resonant.

This blog is where I share personal stories, reflections, energy insights, and the things I’m still learning. It’s a space for the sensitive, the curious, the deep-feeling hearts—those who want to explore the magic of everyday life through presence, ritual, and gentle remembrance of who we really are.

I work with tools like Reiki, angelic energy, essential oils, Gong Fu Cha and subtle spiritual practices that support emotional clarity, energetic protection, and soul-level alignment. I also share guided meditations, printable rituals, and customized healing tools for those who want to go deeper.

But at the core, I’m still that same writer—hoping that in sharing my experiences, I might inspire someone else to feel seen, safe, and reminded of their own light.

Thanks for being here. Whether you’re reading one post or walking alongside me for a while—I’m honored to share this space with you.
